Physical Education

 

Tom Hardie has 37 years experience in Physical Education. He has been extensively involved in National Qualification Curriculum design, National Assessment Quality Assurance and in National Staff Development.
He has a great deal of experience in co-ordinating and delivering National Conferences and Seminars as well as producing a wide range of support materials for both sta and pupils.

Tom has a huge experience in working in many roles with the SQA. He is currently Principal Assessor for both Higher and Advanced Higher Physical Education as well as being Senior verifier. In his role he has been responsible for the management of these National Courses in terms of setting National Exams as well as ensuring quality assurance. He was a co- author for Leckie and Leckie and wrote books on a Success Guide for the current Higher, examplar questions and answers for sta and candidates as well as a Support Book for S1-S3 Curriculum for Excellence.

Most recently he has been involved in developing the new Higher and Advanced Higher for Physical Education

Preparing Candidates for National 5

This course is aimed at current and future teachers of National 5 Physical Education. The course will examine all the components of the National 5 Physical Education course, including performance and the portfolio. The course will focus on the standards expected by the SQA, to ensure learners successfully achieve their National 5 Physical Education qualification. The course will provide an opportunity for teachers to increase their confidence, by providing them with a clear understanding of the requirements of the course and the opportunity to share best practice. The course will also
look at the management of the portfolio and the performance components.

Higher Physical Education - How to Pass the Exam

This course is aimed at all PE staff who wish to ensure they are delivering the appropiate content and providing the 'cues' to achieve high pass rates.

The course will cover:

• examine exam preparation
• understanding of the commmand words
• exam technique and accessing marks with regards to the external course assessment.
