Mindfulness

 

Susan Chan is a professional mindfulness coach, trainer and consultant, CPD provider with Education Scotland and Hodder Education, as well as a member of several professional organisations.  She has a MSc in Mindfulness Studies from the University of Aberdeen and is an Ambassador for the programme and the Mindfulness Association. She is a mentor with the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, and has been recognised by the Association of Scottish Businesswomen as a finalist for ‘Outstanding contribution to Business’ and ‘Best Charity/ Business Partnership’. She works with schools and colleges, individuals, groups, charities and companies large and small. Susan Chan Associates has a range of MP3 downloads and CDs for confidence, de-stress and well- being themes. Susan’s consultancy has grown both nationally (into London) and internationally into China.

Mindfulness Level 1 - An Introduction to Mindfulness Based Coaching when working with students

Why attend? This is an introductory experiential course for professionals who wish to gain insight into mindful practise and explore ways in which the participants, the school and their students can benefit.
Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally. This course is perfect for professionals with a teaching or coaching role within a school or college looking for training. This course is skills orientated and how to practise.
All participants will receive audio links with a range of mindfulness coaching practices specifically created for this AOK Event.

Mindfulness in Education: Resilience and effectiveness for School Leaders

An increasing number of school leaders, teachers and students experience stress, anxiety and confusion in an uncertain and changing world. Research indicates that interventions can change those negative behaviour patterns. This is a new course for school leaders and managers to develop a range of skills including mindfulness for presence, effectiveness and performance.

Who should attend?

  • school leaders who work with teachers and students
  • professionals with an interest in gaining a range of skills and techniques in de-stress, presence, resilience and mindful practise to enhance the ‘vision and mission’ in the school.

The science behind mindfulness
Research indicates that the brain can alter physically through mindfulness training. Studies link mindfulness to changes associated with better learning and reduced stress, heightened cognitive control and improved resilience. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends mindfulness training to improve well-being. Organisations that embrace mindfulness often report the improved performance and well-being of employees, managers and leaders.

Mindfulness programme can have the potential to allow the school organisation and people to:

  • cope better with mental stresses linked to being anxious or depressed

This is a practical and experiential course with guided practises to enable teachers to work with students.

This course is for staff who work with young people in a pastoral and caring role and help them to make a difference when working with their students.
